5 second-year Vikings poised for a big sophomore season in 2022

Chazz Surratt – LB
Chazz Surratt is by far the biggest boom or bust player from the Vikings 2021 draft class. A converted quarterback turned linebacker, Surratt only played two seasons as a linebacker in college where he produced an impressive 206 tackles, 12.5 sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. For a player that was new to the position, Surratt showed that he had what it takes to play linebacker.
Being so new to the position does come with its downsides, as Surratt is clearly still learning how to fully play the position.
These growing pains should be expected, and one executive said “he’s barely played linebacker, so a lot of these mistakes he makes are going to disappear once he gets more snaps. It takes time, but he’s smart and competes his ass off, so he’ll get it.” This is high praise for Surratt, and this praise should get Vikings fans excited.
With players leaving and new coaching staff for the Vikings, players should get every chance possible to go out and prove themselves this offseason.
Surratt may be a little undersized for the position, but his sheer determination and exceptional athleticism make him an interesting player to keep an eye out for. If Surratt can finally start to get a better grasp of the defensive side of the game, the sky may be the limit for him.
