After missing the entire 2021 season with a knee injury, will wide receiver Bisi Johnson have a role with the Minnesota Vikings for the 2022 campaign?
When the Minnesota Vikings headed out onto the field inside U.S. Bank Stadium for their first game of the 2020 season, Bisi Johnson, not Justin Jefferson, was one of the team’s two starting wide receivers, along with Adam Thielen.
Johnson battled with Jefferson during Minnesota‘s 2020 training camp and he beat out the dynamic rookie for the team’s No. 2 receiver job.
Unfortunately for Johnson, his time as a starter in 2020 was short-lived, as his production on the field didn’t live up to the potential he showed in training camp, and he was replaced in the starting lineup by Jefferson after just two games.
Will Bisi Johnson have a role with the 2022 Minnesota Vikings?
Last summer, Johnson didn’t even really get a chance to prove himself during Minnesota’s 2021 training camp as the young receiver suffered a torn ACL in July. This knee injury ended up keeping him out of action for the entire 2021 regular season.
Now, Johnson is in the final year of his contract with the Vikings, and he has to prove to an entirely new coaching staff that he deserves a spot on the team’s 2022 roster.
It could be an uphill battle for the former seventh-round pick, as most are expecting K.J. Osborn and Ihmir Smith-Marsette to make Minnesota’s final 2022 roster.
There’s also the possibility of the Vikings adding a rookie receiver to the mix during this year’s NFL Draft, which could make it even more difficult for Johnson to remain in Minnesota for the 2022 season.
As a seventh-round selection by the Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft, it was a surprise when Johnson found a way to make the team’s roster in each of his first two years with the franchise.
Will Johnson continue to shock people this offseason and fight his way onto Minnesota’s Week 1 roster, or will his journey with the Vikings come to a close before the start of the 2022 season?
