We now know when the first Minnesota Vikings players will begin to report for the team’s training camp later this summer.

It’s been almost seven months since we last saw the Minnesota Vikings take the field for a meaningful football game.

With mandatory minicamp ending earlier this month for the Vikings, the start of the 2022 season is even closer. The anticipation for Minnesota’s 2022 campaign grew even larger on Thursday when the NFL announced the official reporting dates for every team’s training camp this summer.

On Sunday, July 24th, Vikings rookies and some veteran players will report to the TCO Performance Center to check in for this year’s training camp. On Tuesday, July 26th, the rest of Minnesota’s roster will report to camp.

Expect training camp to be much different for the Minnesota Vikings this summer

Former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was known to have some pretty intense practices from the start of training camp until the very end of the regular season.

With Kevin O’Connell now Minnesota’s head coach, the team should still expect to work hard, but the intensity will likely be turned down in order to prevent any unnecessary injuries before the start of the regular season.

We should expect some players that are coming off of significant injuries like tight end Irv Smith Jr. and cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. to be eased into camp this summer and to be given plenty of time to continue their recoveries.

We’ve seen Vikings veterans get rest days in the past, but these might end up becoming more frequent this year, even for some of the team’s younger players.

Don’t be surprised if players like Justin Jefferson, Dalvin Cook, Za’Darius Smith, Cameron Dantzler, Harrison Smith, Adam Thielen, and other important members of Minnesota’s roster are allowed more time off this summer than what they might have been given by the previous regime.

We’re in a new era of Vikings football and this year’s training camp will be a great chance to learn more about what the team might be capable of doing out on the field during the 2022 season.
