Joseph proving why there isn’t a kicking competition

Following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Vikings went out and signed former Oklahoma kicker Gabe Brkic to compete with veteran Greg Joseph.

Well, it didn’t take very long for Joseph to prove to Minnesota that he was a better kicker than the undrafted rookie that they brought in to be his competition. But even after the Vikings waived Brkic earlier this year, some still wondered if the team would sign another kicker to compete with Joseph in training camp.

Minnesota did not add another kicker to their roster before the start of training camp, and after recently hearing from Vikings special teams coach Matt Daniels, it’s not hard to understand why they didn’t bring in anyone else.

According to Daniels, Joseph is been on fire this summer, hitting 33 of his 35 field-goal attempts. Minnesota’s special teams coach also predicted that the veteran kicker will have the best season of his career in 2022.

Daniels should probably read up a bit on the Vikings’ history with kickers before making any more predictions about Joseph this year. But at the same time, Minnesota’s kicker hasn’t given his coach any reason not to feel confident about the team’s kicking situation heading into the regular season.
