James Lynch – DT

There haven’t been many rumblings out of camp regarding defensive tackle James Lynch. This is kind of surprising because he is one defender who will definitely be battling for his job this month.

The Vikings are transitioning into a 3-4 defense and one would assume Lynch would be moved to the end position in that front and would be competing with players like Jullian Taylor, Jonathan Bullard, and rookie Esezi Otomweo for snaps. That apparently is the case, though we’ve hardly heard anything about how Lynch is transitioning or looking in 11-on-11 drills.

Lynch did play end in college so he has experience in that formation. The guy is known for his quickness out of his stance and the ability to create pressure. However, in the two seasons he’s played in the NFL, we’ve only gotten a few glimpses of Lynch’s potential.

The good news for Lynch is there hasn’t been much said about his competition either. Who ultimately ends up backing up Armon Watts, Dalvin Tomlinson, and Phillips remains up in the air. But hearing something about Lynch negative or positive would at least give us an idea of his chances of making the team.
