One would be hard-pressed to name a former Viking who has had a more impressive preseason than T.Y. McGill. The dude has 3.5 sacks through two preseason games and has been a wrecking ball on the defensive line, using his explosive get-off to consistently get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

McGill’s stock has skyrocketed this summer. He was seen as a long shot to make the final 53 when he was resigned by the team in March, but now it looks like he’s a lock to make the squad.

McGill was a seven-year veteran who had bounced around the league. The Vikings were the fifth team he had played for and at the time, the signing seemed like a depth move to have an extra body in camp.

It appears that maybe McGill is just a slow learner, and now the light has finally come on for him. Yes it is the preseason, and he’s facing second-tier players at best, but the fact he has been so dominant is what has been so impressive. If he can end up having a situational role this year on the defense and continues to play with the same fire and energy he has shown this summer, the Minnesota Vikings will have scored a true diamond in the rough.
