Former Minnesota Vikings assistant coach Adam Zimmer was found dead in his home in the Twin Cities on Monday. He was just 38-years-old.
Less than a year ago, Adam Zimmer was on the NFL sidelines working with his father as the co-defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings. On Tuesday, we found out that Zimmer’s life came to a close incredibly too soon.
Mendota Heights Police Captain Wayne Wegener revealed on Tuesday that Zimmer was found dead inside his Minnesota home on Monday afternoon. The former Vikings assistant coach was just 38-years-old.
The exact cause of Zimmer’s unexpected death is still unknown, but Wegener did share that “there was nothing suspicious, and there didn’t appear to be any evidence of foul play.”

Zimmer had been working remotely from his home in Minnesota this season as an offensive analyst for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Prior to joining the Bengals’ staff earlier this year, he was a member of the Vikings’ coaching staff under his father for the previous eight seasons. Zimmer began his tenure with Minnesota as the team’s linebackers coach in 2014, and then in 2020, he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator along with Andre Patterson.
Tuesday’s news is just another unfortunate event for a family that has dealt with unexpected tragedy in the past. Zimmer’s mother, Vikki, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 50 back in 2009 when he was a member of the New Orleans Saints coaching staff. Now the Zimmer family must deal with another terribly tragic event following Adam’s sudden passing.
We here at The Viking Age send our thoughts to the Zimmer family in this difficult time.
