The relationship between the Minnesota Vikings and running back Cam Akers is an interesting one. The purple and gold have enjoyed three stints with the 26-year-old rusher, and they could make it four if they see fit.

Cam Akers won his first Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams and followed that up with his second ring from being a member of the Seattle Seahawks, who benefited from having former Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold under center.

A young player with a lot of experience and championship pedigree, Cam Akers could be an asset to a franchise looking to improve the floor of their running back room and get more stability in their rushing attack.

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers is a free agent after winning a Super Bowl ring with the Seattle Seahawks last season.

On Monday, the Seattle Seahawks announced on their official website that the team has released former Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers. This isn't a shock, considering Seattle used a first-round pick on a player at that position and needs to create roster spots for their rookies.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are in a position where bringing Akers back could make a lot of sense. Minnesota is going into the 2026 NFL season with Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason as the lead backs, as well as the returning Zavier Scott and rookies Kejon Owens and Demond Claiborne.

Of course, Minnesota should be in no rush to sign a running back since the team needs to evaluate its young running backs before making any changes to the roster. If Akers is still available after training camp, he could be a solid, familiar face to add to the roster.

Akers is entering his seventh season in the NFL and will eventually be part of a team's roster. Although he's currently a free agent, he is bound to garner some interest from a team looking for a player with his blend of experience and youth.

The five-foot-ten, 217-pound running back may not have seen a lot of action in Seattle, but that doesn't mean that he can't be a competitor for another team now that he is no longer with the Seahawks.

Time will tell whether fate brings Cam Akers back to the Minnesota Vikings for another reunion, but one thing is certain: the former Florida State running back seems to help bring success to any franchise that he is a part of.
