This offseason, it was expected that there would be interest from other teams around the league to hire Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores as a head coach. Meanwhile, many fans are hoping he will stay with the purple and gold to keep leading the defense.
Flores did get some calls and initial interviews, but with second interviews and hires happening around the league, things have been oddly quiet regarding the Vikings defensive coordinator recently.
Brian Flores returning to Vikings in 2025 almost a done deal
Flores hasn't been a head coach since the 2021 NFL season, which was his last with the Miami Dolphins. In three seasons there, he amassed a 24-25 record but did not lead his team to the postseason.
The Chicago Bears are hiring Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to be their head coach. The New England Patriots have hired Mike Vrabel. The Dallas Cowboys have started their second round of interviews that do not include Flores.
That only leaves the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and Las Vegas Raiders as potential openings for Flores to become a head coach again. However, the door seems to be closed on the job in Florida according to Adam Schefter on X.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are doing their second round of head coach interviews and the list does not include Brian Flores. Daniel Graham, Robert Saleh, and Liam Cohen seem to be their preferences for the vacant position.
Flores is an interesting case when it comes to coaching. His work in Miami was filled with some controversy but nothing like that has emerged since he has worked under Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota.
There is something to be said for teams deciding not to take a closer look at Brian Flores but the Minnesota Vikings should be relieved that the odds of their defensive coordinator staying with the team is increasing with every hire and interview this offseason.
Flores has stated in the past that if he were to leave Minnesota, it would be for the "right opportunity" as a head coach. With the remaining vacancies being the Jets, Saints, and Raiders, the odds of one of those being the "right opportunity" is pretty low.
While something surprising could happen to lure Brian Flores away from the Minnesota Vikings, it is looking more and more like he will be on the sidelines of U.S. Bank Stadium in 2025.
