Cam Robinson comments on 'great opportunity' with Vikings after recent trade
By Adam Patrick
Just a few days ago, Cam Robinson was part of a Jacksonville Jaguars team that was in the middle of an incredibly disappointing season with only two wins in their first eight games. But now, Robinson is a member of the 5-2 Minnesota Vikings after they acquired him in a trade with the Jaguars that became official on Wednesday.
Needless to say, the veteran offensive tackle is happy to land with a Vikings team that is currently attempting to contend for a top spot in the NFC this year. Robinson spoke to the local Twin Cities media for the first time on Thursday, and he opened up about landing with Minnesota earlier this week.
"It's a great opportunity. Just leaving the situation I was in [and] for my next situation to be like this, I mean, it's just great."
Will Cam Robinson play for the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9 against the Indianapolis Colts?
With Robinson having his first practice with the Vikings on Thursday and the team's next game taking place on Sunday night, it would seem a bit ambitious for Minnesota to have him play in the matchup.
However, on Thursday's episode of "Minnesota Sports with Mackey & Judd," SKOR North's Judd Zulgad said that he came away from Kevin O'Connell's presser on Wednesday with the impression that the Vikings head coach "wants Cam Robinson to start at left tackle on Sunday" against the Indianapolis Colts.
If Robinson does end up playing for Minnesota this weekend, he's at least already very familiar with the team's opponent, as he was used to facing the Colts twice per season when he was in Jacksonville since both teams are members of the AFC South division.
Robinson has actually even already faced Indianapolis once this season when he was still with the Jaguars back in Week 5, and he performed very well. Starting at left tackle for the matchup, he didn't give up a single pressure in 35 pass-blocking opportunities, and he helped Jacksonville average 5.5 rushing yards per carry.
Even if Robinson doesn't start on Sunday, there's still a chance that Minnesota could attempt to get him on the field for several snaps if they're able to get out to a sizable lead. And at the very least, expect him to be in the starting lineup by Week 10 when the Vikings travel to take on his former team, the Jaguars, in their home stadium.
