Former Vikings draft bust needs new NFL team after getting cut on Tuesday
By Adam Patrick
Back in August, the Minnesota Vikings made the decision to trade third-year cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys. Booth was selected by the Vikings in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he was never really able to find a fit on the team's defense.
Well, it seems like he couldn't find much of a fit on the Cowboys defense either, as the team decided to waive the young cornerback on Tuesday.
Dallas needed to make room on its roster after acquiring wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in a trade with the Carolina Panthers earlier in the day. The Cowboys clearly felt Booth wasn't worth keeping around, so they cut him and gave his roster spot to Mingo.
What's next for former Minnesota Vikings CB Andrew Booth Jr. after getting cut by the Dallas Cowboys?
If Booth clears waivers, it's possible that Dallas could decide to sign him to its practice squad later this week. But it also wouldn't be that surprising if the Cowboys just let him go find another opportunity elsewhere.
This season, Booth has accumulated a total of six tackles in three appearances for Dallas. He didn't get much time on the field with the Cowboys defense, but when he did, opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 118.7 when throwing the ball in his direction.
It's a bit baffling how poorly Booth has performed since entering the NFL in 2022. Prior to getting drafted, he was regarded by many as one of the top cornerback prospects. But for whatever reason, the success he had during his college career at Clemson hasn't been able to transfer over to the NFL.
Booth hasn't been in the league very long, but it seems like his pro career might be closer to the end than really anyone could have anticipated when Minnesota used a second-round pick on him in 2022.
