Less than 24 hours after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, veteran center Garrett Bradbury has already landed a new home with the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday, Bradbury and the Patriots have agreed to a two-year contract worth up to $12 million.
New England became in need of a new starting center after releasing longtime starter David Andrews earlier this month. Now, that need is believed to be filled with the addition of Bradbury.
New England Patriots might actually be a good fit for former Minnesota Vikings center Garrett Bradbury
During his six years with the Vikings, pass-blocking was one of Bradbury's biggest weaknesses. However, he excelled as a run blocker, consistently ranking as one of the better run-blocking centers in the NFL.
While the Patriots would like Bradbury to keep quarterback Drake Maye off the ground as much as possible, the former Minnesota center could actually be a great fit for the type of offense New England might utilize next season.
Former Tennesee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is the new head coach of the Patriots this year, and with this change, one should expect New England to run the football a whole lot more than they have in the recent past.
During Vrabel's six seasons with the Titans, his offenses finished with a top-10 ranking in rushing attempts four times. Compare that to the Vikings, who have ranked 28th, 28th, and 14th in rushing attempts in the team's three years with Kevin O'Connell as their head coach.
So, it seems like Bradbury at least has a good chance to extend his time in the NFL by landing with the Patriots. Now, it's just depends on whether or not the former Minnesota first-round draft pick is able to take advantage of his new opportunity.
