Many Minnesota Vikings fans might not remember very much about Sean Mannion. The former NFL quarterback had multiple stints with the purple and gold before his retirement from playing after the 2023 NFL season.

Mannion didn't leave football upon his retirement as a player. The former third-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2015 joined the Green Bay Packers as an offensive assistant in 2024. He was promoted to quarterbacks coach for 2025.

When with the Vikings, Mannion essentially played the role of a player and coach. Although the former Oregon State standout was technically the backup quarterback to starter Kirk Cousins, his value in meetings and film studies was a huge part of what made Minnesota sign him back multiple times.

Philadelphia Eagles to interview former Minnesota Vikings QB Sean Mannion in-person for offensive coordinator vacancy

Apparently, Sean Mannion is impressing people in coaching circles in the NFL. The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback will reportedly have an in-person interview to be the Philadelphia Eagles' next offensive coordinator this week, according to NFL Media's Mike Garafolo.

Meanwhile, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had some big praise for the Packers' quarterbacks coach and former offensive assistant, according to A To Z Sports' Wendell Ferrara.

“He’s got a bright future in this profession. He attacks it the same way I knew he would when he was a player. Just extreme ownership of everything, puts in the time and goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is exactly what you want from your assistant coaches.”

Now 33 years old, Sean Mannion is rocketing up the coaching ladder. If he lands the offensive coordinator job in Philadelphia, it could be the stepping stone to a head coach opportunity in the future.

With youth, experience, and knowledge on his side, the sky could be the limit for Mannion as a coach. It will be fun to watch what happens with the former Vikings quarterback as he attempts to be successful as an assistant, coordinator, and coach in the NFL.

Mannion remains an individual to keep an eye on as a rising star in the coaching ranks. Even if he isn't hired by the Eagles, he should eventually continue his ascent in the league.
