10 different Minnesota Vikings players caught at least one pass from Kyler Murray in the team's win over the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday, and none of them were named Jauan Jennings.
That was just the latest example of Jennings not being any sort of factor for the Vikings this season, despite there being high hopes for the veteran wide receiver when he signed with the team back in May.
In four appearances for Minnesota this year, Jennings has just two catches for nine yards on five targets, and his PFF run -blocking grade ranks dead last among all Vikings players.
To make matters worse, his 2026 cap hit ($9.5 million) is also higher than the combined 2026 cap hits of fellow Minnesota receivers Jordan Addison, Tai Felton, and Myles Price ($6.7 million).
NFL insider mentions Vikings WR Jauan Jennings as a trade possibility to keep an eye on
During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Monday, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport brought up Jennings when talking about players around the league who could potentially be sent elsewhere before this season's trade deadline on November 10th.
"I would say a name that I've been wondering about is Jauan Jennings.
So he's with the Minnesota Vikings, has, like, two catches. Obviously, came over from the 49ers. I expect his name to heat up a little bit over the next, probably, couple days and weeks.
Obviously, the 49ers lost Deebo [Samuel] for a couple weeks too, so they make sense.
That would be a name, for me, to keep an eye on over the next little bit."
According to Spotrac, any team that acquires Jennings in a trade with the Vikings this year would have to pay him at least $2.6 million for the rest of the season, in addition to any of his remaining $5 million in incentives that he reaches, and keep him on the books with a $4.4 million cap hit.
Minnesota would also be left with a dead cap hit of $5.4 million.
At this point, the Vikings should really be willing to accept almost any trade offer that is presented to them involving Jennings. Right now, Minnesota is basically paying him a bunch of money to do conditioning out on the field each week.
Vikings have made their feelings about Jauan Jennings obvious
With Jennings clearly not being a good fit within the Vikings' offense this season, the team has raised a few eyebrows recently after signing veteran receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad and bringing in free-agent pass-catcher JuJu Smith-Schuster for a workout on Monday.
Addison has been dealing with a hamstring injury, and Jefferson just returned from an injured ankle, so it's not surprising that Minnesota has been attempting to improve its wide receiver depth recently. However, if the Vikings were truly confident in Jennings' ability to even slightly fill in for Addison or Jefferson, then they probably wouldn't have signed Beckham or met with Smith-Schuster.
Everything just seems to be pointing to Minnesota and Jennings ending their current relationship in the near future.
The Vikings know that not every free-agent signing is going to turn into a success, and sometimes it's best for both sides to go their separate ways before a contract even reaches its end.
This seems to be the case for Minnesota and Jennings, so don't be surprised if the receiver is no longer a member of the team's roster by the time they return to the field in Week 7 after their bye this week.
