It has almost been a full month since this year's free agency period began for the Minnesota Vikings and the 31 other teams in the NFL.
Of the members of the Vikings' 2025 roster to hit free agency this offseason, some have returned to Minnesota, while others have landed contracts with a new team.
Then there are the free agents from the Vikings' 2025 roster who are still in need of a place to play for the 2026 campaign. Most have already signed with Minnesota or another team in free agency this offseason, but there are still a few who are waiting to get their next opportunity in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings free agents who still need a team for the 2026 NFL season
Jeff Okudah - CB
Last offseason, the Vikings became the latest team to take a chance on the former No. 3 overall draft pick in 2020, and just like every team before them, Minnesota found out that Jeff Okudah wasn't going to meet his expectations.
Unfortunately, multiple concussions resulted in Okudah only appearing in six games with the Vikings last season, but even when he was able to get on the field, his performance wasn't anything close to what Minnesota was hoping to see from him.
Now that concussions could potentially be a lingering issue, and the fact that he just hasn't been good during his tenure in the league, his career in the NFL could already be nearing the end, despite it beginning just six years ago.
Fabian Moreau - CB
Unlike Okudah, Fabian Moreau made the most of his time on the field with the Vikings last season.
Of the Minnesota players who accumulated at least 100 snaps on defense last year, Moreau finished with the fourth-best PFF defensive grade and the third-best PFF pass coverage grade.
When throwing in his direction last season, opposing quarterbacks only completed 45 percent of their passes and had a passer rating of just 54.2.
Moreau has now appeared in a total of 18 games with the Vikings in the last two years, and since it likely wouldn't cost much, don't be surprised if Minnesota eventually brings him back for a third season in purple and gold.
Matt Nelson - OT
Shortly after the start of last summer's training camp, the Vikings signed veteran reserve offensive tackle Matt Nelson. Unfortunately, Nelson never appeared in a game for Minnesota after tearing his bicep a few days after signing with the team.
Brett Rypien - QB
After not making the Vikings' final 53-man roster last year, Brett Rypien was claimed off waivers by Minnesota before the team's Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions.
Rypien was not active for either of the Vikings' final two contests last season, and his chances of returning to the team for a third year in a row don't seem too high after Minnesota added Kyler Murray and re-signed Carson Wentz last month.
John Wolford - QB
After Wentz suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 8, the Vikings added John Wolford to their practice squad since J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer were the only other two quarterbacks on the team's roster at the time.
Like Rypien, Wolford didn't appear in a single game for Minnesota last year, and the return of Wentz combined with the addition of Murray make pretty unlikely that he will be back with the Vikings for the 2026 season.
