Last week's 48-10 throttling of the Minnesota Vikings over the Cincinnati Bengals felt like nothing could have gone wrong for the guys in purple.
That especially applied to Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, who had the game of a lifetime. Rodgers finished the games with two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery for a touchdown, and an interception returned for another score. He recorded the best Pro Football Focus grade in history with a 99.9.
Rodgers wasn't the only defender on the Vikings who got an interception in that game. Safety Josh Metellus had a pretty stellar game himself as he finished third on the team in tackles with five, adding a pass deflection and an interception in the win.
Metellus appeared on the Nightcap podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, where he discussed with them what led to his interception and his plan to replicate that success this weekend against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin.
"I walked up to him after one of his plays, I think it was after the forced fumble, and he picked that up and scored, and I grabbed his hands, and I was like, 'Whatever you got, let me get some of that,' and hey, long and behold, the Lord blessed me with a pick. That ball came right on my lap. I said, 'Okay, he really has something.' I don't know what he had and what his routine was last week, but I've been close to his hop this week. I'm trying to do the same thing."
Minnesota Vikings safety Josh Metellus's performance against the Bengals caps what's been a solid first three weeks
While that interception from Metellus was nice to have on the stat sheet, he's had a solid season in 2025. PFF gave him an overall grade of 71.5, ranking 37th out of 123 safeties in the league.
Metellus has been a great leader on the field, especially with Harrison Smith out. In three starts, Metellus has racked up 14 tackles (fourth most on the team), two pass deflections, and an interception. He's allowed a passer rating of 43.8 and allowed just 7.5 yards per reception.
The Vikings are facing some tough injuries going into their Steelers game, including edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel. That will put more pressure on the secondary to step up. Watch out for Metellus to have a big day in Ireland, and as he hopes, another turnover to create.
