When it comes to the Minnesota Vikings, there has definitely been a bit of quarterback drama during the last few weeks. Ironically, however, almost none of it has had to do with Kyler Murray, who is, of course, set to open up the 2026 regular season as Minnesota's starting quarterback.
Well, since he was probably getting tired of talking about the daily back-and-forth between J.J. McCarthy and the Vikings, ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio recently decided to present some very unconcerning information about Murray as something the team should potentially be worried about.
"I heard last night from someone I trust that [Kyler Murray] is showing up [to the Vikings' practice facilities] right on time and leaving as soon as the bell rings.
Which is fine, but kind of fits with one of the issues that emerged in Arizona.
And hey, it may be all he needs in order to go out there and be highly effective, but to the extent that we thought, all of a sudden, he was going to be [the] guy who gets there well before anyone and [the] guy who burns the midnight oil, that's not happening, at least not for now in Minnesota"
Why can't Mike Florio just be happy about the Minnesota Vikings?
For those who are unaware, Florio is a Vikings fan (or at least he claims to be). So he's gone through all the pain and heartbreak over the years that every other Minnesota fan has.
Despite this, he seems to feel the need, at times, to create some sort of "controversy" out of thin air for the team he roots for. This stuff about Murray literally being on time for his job is just another example.
Florio should be ecstatic that the Vikings went out and got a quarterback who can actually complete an accurate pass to Justin Jefferson after J.J. McCarthy somehow failed to do so last season.
Murray has his flaws, yes, but so does every player in the NFL, and the regular season hasn't even started yet. There will be plenty of time to talk about whatever sort of mistakes the veteran quarterback makes this year because they're going to happen.
Instead, Florio has to pretend that he has some sort of scoop that Murray is showing up to Minnesota's practice facilities when he needs to and leaving when he's no longer required to be there.
That's not a scoop. You're literally telling your audience that the Vikings' starting quarterback is doing his job.
Does Florio know if Murray leaves practice and watches game film at home? Does Florio know if the Pro Bowl signal-caller is in constant communication with Minnesota's coaches and skill players about game planning?
The answer is no, he doesn't.
And if he did know, he still probably wouldn't even mention it because, for whatever reason, Florio seems to only enjoy the complaining part about being a Vikings fan.
There's a good portion of Minnesota's fan base that always seems to be waiting for the other shoe to drop, and rightfully so, since the franchise has failed to ever win a Super Bowl since its inaugural season in 1961.
But with Florio, man, it feels like whenever things are feeling even just slightly optimistic about the Vikings, he'll do whatever he can to grab that shoe and throw it down the stairs to make sure it drops as far as possible.
