Before signing with the Minnesota Vikings last year, running back Aaron Jones spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career as a member of the Green Bay Packers. In six of those seven years with the Packers, Jones played in an offense that featured Aaron Rodgers as the team's starting quarterback.
So, it should come as no surprise that, in a recent short chat with TMZ Sports, the Vikings running back shared that he doesn't think Rodgers is done playing, despite the New York Jets revealing earlier this week that they intend to move on from him this offseason.
"I feel like he's still got a lot to prove. Now he's really going to have a chip on his shoulder. He's going to go out and show, 'Hey, you guys made the wrong decision. I gotta a lotta ball left, and we going to be good.'"
When asked if Rodgers could play several more years in the NFL, Jones also didn't hesitate to nod and say that he "could see that" happening.
If Aaron Jones and Aaron Rodgers reunite in 2025, the Minnesota Vikings won't be the team to make it happen
Following the Jets announcement that they will be parting with Rodgers this offseason, there's now a chance that the quarterback and Jones could end up as teammates once again.
While the veteran running back had one of the most productive years of his pro career with Minnesota in 2024, he's a free agent this offseason, and a return to the Vikings isn't a guarantee.
There are multiple teams around the league that could potentially be interested in reuniting the former Packers teammates, including the Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants.
Luckily, the Vikings are not a team that is interested in reuniting Jones with his former quarterback. Minnesota would love to bring Jones back for another season, but despite what all the attention-seeking blogs, podcasts, and talk shows want everyone to think, all signs point to the Vikings staying far away from Rodgers and moving ahead with J.J. McCarthy as the team's starting quarterback for the 2025 campaign.
It's completely fine if Jones wants find a way this offseason to play on the same team as Rodgers once again. If that happens, unfortunately, the veteran running back won't be suiting up for the Vikings in 2025.
