Minnesota Vikings running back Zavier Scott has been on a tear during the preseason as he took another step forward in solidifying his spot on the team's 53-man roster.

During the Vikings' 20-12 loss to the New England Patriots, Scott was one of the stars on offense. He finished with 10 carriers for 28 yards to lead the team and added three receptions for 44. Scott also had a kickoff return for 20 yards to top off a versatile day for the former undrafted free agent.

The highlight play of the day for Scott was catching an 18-yard screen pass from quarterback Brett Rypien. That play helped the Vikings cross midfield and get into field goal range.

Is Zavier Scott doing enough to convince the Minnesota Vikings to make the 53-man roster?

Most players on the bubble usually need to excel on special teams. Scott has been used in the return game, but wide receiver Myles Price is looking like he's earning that job after a 20-yard punt return and an 81-yard kickoff return against the Patriots.

That would leave Scott needing to be the number three running back on the depth chart to make it. He will have to beat out veteran Ty Chandler and Tre Stewart for that RB3 job.

Stewart did not record any stats in the game. Chandler has just three carries for 12 yards for an average of four yards a carry.

Scott's versatility with catching out of the backfield and running the ball has made him an enticing pick to make the roster. He has good vision and makes a quick cut to the right hole to hit and isn't afraid of making contact with a defender.

In last week's 20-10 win against the Houston Texans, Scott showed a lot of those same traits that have made him a lethal weapon on offense. He had 40 rushing yards on seven carries as he once again led the team and had one catch for 11 yards.

Chandler has been a popular name among NFL writers to suggest the Vikings trade to acquire a draft pick from him or to be outright cut. Scott is a significant reason for that with his emergence at training camp.

There's only one more preseason game for Scott to steal the job away from Chandler, as most fans agree that he should be RB3.
