There aren't many teams in the NFL that have as rich a history as the Minnesota Vikings. Founded in 1960, the purple and gold joined the league as an expansion team the next year and have been one of the winningest teams ever since.

Many great milestones have been set by the Vikings and a large number of the most talented players ever to play in the NFL have spent time in Minnesota. However, the team has a chance to set a franchise record at the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings could set a franchise record for fewest players selected in a draft

As it currently stands, the Minnesota Vikings own the rights to four picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. If they make those selections and don't accumulate any more picks, they will set a franchise record for fewest players selected in a draft.

In 2008 and 2009, the Vikings made five picks each. The most notable players in those draft classes were offensive lineman John Sullivan in 2008 and wide receiver/kick return specialist Percy Harvin in 2009.

In what could be considered a weaker draft class, this wouldn't be a bad year for the Vikings to make only four selections. Minnesota has done well in free agency and doesn't have many glaring needs that must be addressed at the 2025 NFL Draft.

Here are the picks the Minnesota Vikings own the rights to:

Round 1: Pick No. 24 overall
Round 3: Pick No. 97 overall
Round 5: Pick No. 139 overall
Round 6: Pick No. 168 overall

Because of their lack of draft picks, many experts consider the Vikings to be one of the most likely teams to trade down at the 2025 NFL Draft. However, if the right prospect is on the board when Minnesota is on the clock, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would be wise to select that individual and not worry too much about the number of players selected.

The 2025 NFL draft is only 17 days away. The first round kicks off on Thursday, Apr. 24 and will continue with the seventh and final round finishing on Sunday, Apr. 26. At that point, fans will know if the team sets a new franchise record.

For the Minnesota Vikings, the biggest challenge is making their picks count. When you enter a draft with only four picks, it is more important than ever to get each pick right and land a player who can contribute. The team can't afford to whiff on multiple players.
