A former Minnesota Vikings defender has decided to stick around the NFC North for a fourth straight season, but with a different team.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported on Monday that the Chicago Bears are expected to sign defensive end Marcus Davenport to a contract. Davenport just completed a workout with the Bears before signing with them.

Back in 2023, Davenport was a member of the Vikings' defensive line, racking up seven tackles, four quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, and two sacks in four games. After spending one season with the Vikings in 2023, he played for the Detroit Lions for the last two years.

Minnesota Vikings will once again see old friend Marcus Davenport in the NFC North

Vikings fans would love to forget the one year that Davenport was with the team and how much of a waste of money it was to bring him in. Minnesota originally gave him a one-year, $13 million contract to help with the pass rush.

As mentioned above, he would only get two sacks in four games before missing the other 13 games of the season. Davenport suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 6 of that season and wasn't a factor after that.

It was a massive disappointment since he was developing nicely with the New Orleans Saints. In the 2021 season, he had a career-high nine sacks that year.

Since that time, though, injuries have ruined any hope for him to recapture that magic he had. He hasn't played in more than 10 games since the 2022 season with the Saints.

It appears the Bears are reaching in the hopes that he can step up and play better. Davenport has previous connections with Bears head coach Ben Johnson from their Detroit days and defensive coordinator Dennis Allen from their New Orleans days.

The Vikings now might have to potentially play him twice this season on the other side. At least Minnesota knows how to handle Davenport if they have to play against them. That offensive line for the Vikings will be able to handle him if he tries to get pressure on new starting quarterback Kyler Murray.

It's been a long few years for Davenport, but he seems to have landed on his team, which will need him. For Vikings fans, it's disappointing that he is staying in the division, as it might not end up being the fairytale story he is hoping for.
