The 2026 season is undoubtedly a huge one for veteran quarterback Kyler Murray. For the first time in his career, Murray is playing for a team other than the Arizona Cardinals, joining the Minnesota Vikings after being released by Arizona, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that he’s playing for his future in the league as a starter.
Considering that reality, and the fact that Murray is only signed to a one-year deal, he should have plenty of motivation to make this an elite season. If the veteran quarterback was looking for some more fuel, he just got some gift-wrapped for him from a Hall of Fame quarterback.
That quarterback is Warren Moon, and the football legend recently praised Murray’s abilities while questioning his mentality.
In a recent appearance on the "Up & Adams" show, host Kay Adams expressed that she was very interested in Murray in Minnesota. That’s when Moon interjected with an exasperated sound.
Adams laughed and asked the meaning behind that reaction, and that’s when the NFL legend got brutally honest about his feelings on Murray.
“You just never know what you’re going to get from that guy. He is so dynamic, he makes so many plays that you go ‘Wow.’ And then, all of a sudden, he goes through phases where he doesn’t even look like the same guy.”
Warren Moon calls out Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray for lack of consistency
Moon wasn’t trying to put down the new Vikings quarterback; he was just honestly expressing the frustration that he has had watching his career unfold.
He also added that Murray doesn't have any excuses anymore now that he's with the Vikings.
"I don't think he has any excuses with this Minnesota team. This team is ready to go on the defensive side of the ball, [and] offensively with the weapons.
Now, it's just a matter of having a trigger guy, and which trigger guy is it going to be? Is it going to be Kyler, or is it going to be J.J. [McCarthy]?"
Adams, who admitted that Murray is the most frustrating quarterback in the NFL for her, asked Moon to further expound on his read of the Vikings quarterback.
The legend agreed that Murray is the most frustrating QB in the league, and the reason why is that Murray is so talented, but hasn’t consistently played to the level of his abilities.
Moon acknowledged that injuries and circumstances have played a role in how Murray’s career has unfolded thus far, but he also said the current quarterback never looks motivated.
"He never looks like he's motivated. Maybe he is inside, but he just doesn't give you that demeanor."
Ultimately, Moon’s hope now is that Murray can give more of himself to his team in Minnesota and lead the way as the quarterback.
