Max Brosmer earned Kevin O’Connell’s trust with one bold decision in Giants win

After a historically bad first NFL start back in a Week 13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback Max Brosmer got a chance to redeem himself in the team's game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Brosmer entered the contest in the third quarter to fill in for an injured J.J. McCarthy, and the rookie looked a lot better than he did in the loss to the Seahawks.

He only attempted seven passes during his time on the field, but he made enough plays to help lead the Vikings to a win on Sunday, including a 21-yard throw to Justin Jefferson midway through the fourth quarter that Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell couldn't help but rave about after the matchup.

"Thought it was a phenomenal throw to get it up and over the flat defender. It was
kind of a unique inverted two-deep coverage, so the corners got the half, and we could dive all the way in on that if we had a whiteboard, but what it was is Max making a big time throw and giving Justin Jefferson a chance.

...Max stepping in, how about that? Stepping in and functioning at a high level, throwing some completions here and there, running the show, [and] made some great decisions with our can system in the run game."

Minnesota Vikings might need more help from Max Brosmer in final two games of 2025 season

With there still being a bunch of uncertainty about McCarthy's status for the rest of the season, it's possible that the Vikings will need Brosmer to take some more snaps in the next two weeks.

The thought of that might cause some Minnesota fans to freak out, but the rookie quarterback's solid performance on Sunday should help calm some of those concerns.

Luckily, if Brosmer has to start one or both of the Vikings' final two games of the season, both contests will be played inside Minnesota's U.S. Bank Stadium, and neither of them will be against a Seahawks defense that ruined the rookie's starting debut a few weeks ago.

We will likely find out more about McCarthy within the next 24 to 48 hours, but don't be surprised if the Vikings take the field with Brosmer as their starter for their Christmas Day showdown against the Detroit Lions in a few days.
