Vikings may have quietly built the NFL's most feared WR trio

While the WR3 role for the Minnesota Vikings hasn't yielded big numbers for those who have filled it the last few seasons, the free agency departure of Jalen Nailor left a question mark after Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison on the depth chart.

While it was easiest to tie the Vikings to a particular option to fill their WR3 void, they ended up signing former San Francisco 49ers pass-catcher Jauan Jennings in early May. He will bring sheer physicality to the table that Jefferson and Addison can't quite offer, and how he views his arrival to Minnesota feels bold and appropriate all at once.

Once upon a time, the Vikings had a great wide receiver trio, complete with a marketable and still-memorable nickname ("3 Deep"). Two of those three guys, Cris Carter and Randy Moss, are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with their time in Purple a core part of their resumes.

Minnesota Vikings 2026 WR trio gets ranking boost from Jauan Jennings signing

Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport recently ranked the top-10 wide receiver groups in the NFL after the New England Patriots acquired A.J. Brown. The Vikings might have made the list solely with Jefferson and Addison fueling the ranking, but the move to sign Jennings vaulted them to No. 1 for Davenport.

"The group is headlined by Justin Jefferson, who is arguably the best wide receiver in the game. His 1,048 receiving yards and 12.5 yards per reception last year were both career lows, but that had a lot more to do with the quarterback play in the Twin Cities than anything Jefferson did.

Jordan Addison may not be Jefferson, and his 2025 season was the worst of his three years in the league. But he has shown a nose for the end zone, scoring 19 touchdowns over his first two years in the pros.

Add in Jauan Jennings, who has 132 catches and 15 touchdowns over the past two years, and you have a trio of experienced, productive pass catchers—and a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators."

As other teams seemed to have a better path to a large role sat on their hands after April's draft, the Vikings pounced and got Jennings, and in the process created an enviable wide receiver trio.

And in the estimation of at least one analyst, the best wide receiver group in the league now resides in the Twin Cities as a result.
