Already without multiple starters due to injury on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings lost another notable player to an injury midway through their Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons when veteran center Ryan Kelly left the contest in the second quarter after suffering a concussion.
Kelly was dealing with a toe injury heading into Sunday's game, so he was already banged up. And now with a concussion added to the mix, Minnesota has to worry about his availability for the team's Week 3 contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.
If Kelly is unable to play next weekend, the Vikings could potentially be without him at center and Christian Darrisaw at left tackle, and that's just on the offensive side of the ball.
Injuries continue to pile up for Minnesota Vikings after Ryan Kelly leaves early against Atlanta Falcons
Kelly's injury is even more concerning when one realizes that this is the third concussion he's suffered since the start of the 2023 season. Due to his recent history with concussions, it wouldn't be surprising if the one he suffered on Sunday caused him to miss multiple games this year.
In addition to Kelly exiting early, Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell shared after the game that offensive tackle Justin Skule also left the contest early due to a concussion, running back Aaron Jones suffered a hamstring injury, edge rusher Jonathan Greenard injured his oblique, and edge rusher Gabriel Murphy suffered an MCL injury.
The Vikings have only played two games this season, and several notable players are already dealing with significant injuries. It's part of the sport, and no one is going to feel sorry for Minnesota, but it does seem like the team has caught a serious case of the injury bug to begin the 2025 campaign.
Hopefully, before the Vikings return to the field next Sunday for a Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, some of their injured players will be ready to suit up.
