However unlikely it may seem, as it feels like we just got this thing going, the first third of this 2026 NFL regular season is now a thing of the past, and things obviously couldn't have gone better for the Minnesota Vikings, who are easily one of the biggest surprises in the league thus far and will return to action this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts after their Week 6 bye.
After a wild comeback win over the rival Green Bay Packers in Week 1, Kevin O'Connell & Co. have since taken down the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints, thus giving the franchise its second 5-0 start in three years and its 10th such start in team history.
While the offense looked a little anemic in the early weeks, aside from that comeback against Green Bay, of course, things have picked up, as the Vikes averaged 350 total yards per game in their last two wins. But the biggest reason for this undefeated start has been Brian Flores' defense, which has surrendered the second-fewest yards per game (259.8) and the fewest points per contest (12.8) over this opening stretch of the season.
Heading into Week 7, Minnesota is one of only three undefeated teams remaining, the other two being the San Francisco 49ers (6-0) and the Kansas City Chiefs. And yet, in the latest Super Bowl 61 odds at this one-third mark of the year, while the Niners and Chiefs are right there at or near the top, the Vikings barely crack the top 10.

As you can see, the 49ers sit atop the list at +540, while the Chiefs sit in a tie with the Buffalo Bills for second at +750. Several spots down, tied for ninth overall with the New England Patriots, you've got the Vikings at +1800.
But here's where things get a little weird. At +1800, Minnesota ranks fifth among NFC teams, just below the Bears, who sit in fourth at +1500. But when it comes to winning just the conference, the Vikings are tied with the Los Angeles Rams for third at +700, with Chicago in fifth at +790.
Furthermore, while we didn't list the odds to win only the NFC North in the table above, we can tell you that the Vikings lead the way there by a fairly wide margin at +105, with the Bears and Lions in a tie for second at +350 and the Packers bringing up the rear at +530.
So, do with all of that what you will—and do it responsibly, of course.
Now, for those of you who are regular readers here at The Viking Age, you know we've been following these Super Bowl 61 odds for quite some time now, first in the immediate aftermath of Super Bowl 60, then again after Kyler Murray signed, then again just after the draft, and then again just ahead of Week 1. And here's what those numbers looked like.
- After Super Bowl 60: +6000
- After Kyler Murray signing: +5500
- After the draft: +5500
- Just ahead of Week 1: +5000
Obviously, where the Vikings are now is a massive jump. But there's still a little disrespect happening here. That said, as long as Minnesota keeps winning, they'll keep climbing this list as the season progresses.
