No other position on the Minnesota Vikings this offseason has been scrutinized as much by the media as the quarterback position.

After Sam Darnold's and Daniel Jones's departures, it became clear that J.J. McCarthy was in line to be the starting quarterback in 2025. Brett Rypien was the only other quarterback on the roster going into the 2025 NFL Draft.

The draft saw the Vikings trade on Day 3 with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire one of their quarterbacks, Sam Howell. After the draft, Minnesota would sign Golden Gophers quarterback Max Brosmer as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Brosmer has been catching many people's attention and might be in line to win a roster spot as his head coach, Kevin O'Connell, continues to be impressed with his new young signal caller.

Kevin O'Connell raves about Minnesota Vikings rookie QB Max Brosmer

Earlier this week, ESPN's Kevin Seifert shared an article that went into the background of how O'Connell has been keeping track of Brosmer since he arrived at the University of Minnesota's campus last year. The New Hampshire transfer caught O'Connell's attention at Minnesota's Pro Day last year and followed his college career afterward.

Last year with the Golden Gophers, Brosmer completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 2,828 yards and 18 touchdowns to six interceptions in 13 games. He was previously a first-team FCS All-American at New Hampshire in 2023.

Brosmer participated in the Vikings' rookie minicamp on Friday, where he got attention from O'Connell, quarterbacks coach Josh McCown, and assistant offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jordan Traylor after every play, getting coached up.

Earlier this month, O'Connell shared his thoughts on Brosmer's play and praised the young rookie.

"A lot of [Brosmer's skills] were on display [Friday]. The starting point of just being a pretty efficient thrower of the football from a standpoint of fundamentals, technique, his ability to generate some pretty good revolutions and RPMs on the ball with pretty limited movement in the pocket. I have a lot of respect for P.J. and his staff and how they've coached football over there, from a standpoint of his high football IQ.

Shows up when he can really arrive here, spend a couple hours in meetings, and he's out there making corrections in the middle of a 7-on-7 walk-through leading into a period. So you're already seeing a lot of the things that we really identified in Max to bring them into a quarterback room that we're really excited about."

McCarthy is the only quarterback on the roster with a 100 percent secure spot going into 2025. Rypien, Howell, and Brosmer will be battling for the two other roster spots.

With the quarterback position in Minnesota so uncertain, Brosmer has a legitimate shot at developing under O'Connell and winning a spot on the team.
