Depending on who you ask, the idea of Aaron Rodgers coming to the Minnesota Vikings will either be met with joyous glee or absolute disgust. Whether you love or hate the idea, having a four-time MVP, Super Bowl MVP, and ten-time Pro Bowl quarterback is intriguing.

Heading into the 2026 NFL season, there is a question mark about what the Vikings will do at the quarterback position. They could roll with J.J. McCarthy as the starter again. Or they could look to a veteran like Aaron Rodgers to see how close Minnesota is to being a contender.

Rodgers has plenty of options. He could return to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He could choose to retire at age 42. He could also choose to finish out his career with a new team and make headlines by signing with a team like the Vikings.

Prediction has Minnesota Vikings signing QB Aaron Rodgers in free agency this offseason

Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated recently released an article that made 32 bold predictions for the upcoming season. Among those prognostications is the belief that the Minnesota Vikings will sign Aaron Rodgers to "compete" with J.J. McCarthy.

Here is what he had to say about his prediction:

"I don’t see Rodgers walking away from the chance to pass Peyton Manning on the NFL’s all-time touchdown list. And I don’t see Kevin O’Connell walking away from the chance to add meaningful depth to his roster.

While Rodgers and Zach Wilson ended up not being the developmental bridge the Jets had hoped, McCarthy must realize he’s in a similar sink-or-swim situation and can take copious notes."

McCarthy is entering his third season with the Vikings and still hasn't shown enough that the team should be comfortable handing him the starting quarterback job again for the 2026 NFL season.

Whether Minnesota looks for competition or an experienced quarterback to let their young quarterback learn, they need to do something at the position.

Rodgers might be older and close to retirement, but he might still have enough fuel in his gas tank to help this Vikings team climb the ranks of the NFC North and possibly stick it to one of his former teams, the Green Bay Packers.

Keep an eye on the Vikings this offseason. There are so many different ways the purple and gold could go at the quarterback position, and it would be difficult not to want to see what a player like Rodgers could do if given the opportunity to thrive under head coach Kevin O'Connell.
