Final Vikings 53-man roster prediction after preseason win over Eagles
By Adam Patrick
After getting an easy 26-3 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason finale, the Minnesota Vikings now have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. CST to construct a 53-man roster for the upcoming 2024 regular season.
Several Vikings who appeared in Saturday's preseason game will be selected for the team's final roster. But for the most part, Minnesota likely already had a good idea about which 53 guys to keep before the contest in Philadelphia even began.
So, when Tuesday's deadline arrives, which players will be selected to head into the 2024 regular season as members of the Vikings?
Final Minnesota Vikings 53-Man Roster Prediction for the 2024 Season
Quarterbacks (2)
Sam Darnold
Nick Mullens
One could certainly make an argument for Minnesota to keep Jaren Hall on its regular-season roster, but they will likely attempt to move him to the practice squad. And even if another team claims him during the waiver process, the Vikings will still be able to sleep at night if they let a former fifth-round pick get out the door.
Running Backs (4)
Aaron Jones
Ty Chandler
Kene Nwangwu
C.J. Ham (FB)
This position group was pretty set at the start of the preseason. Kene Nwangwu was really the biggest question mark heading into the summer, and he had such a good preseason that Minnesota might actually use him on offense this year.
Wide Receivers (6)
Justin Jefferson
Jordan Addison
Jalen Nailor
Brandon Powell
Trent Sherfield Sr.
Trishton Jackson
Trishton Jackson was arguably the most impressive player on the field for the Vikings this preseason, and the team should feel comfortable if he needs to fill in for anyone during the 2024 campaign.
Tight Ends (4)
Josh Oliver
Robert Tonyan
Johnny Mundt
Nick Muse
Minnesota might decide to keep N'Keal Harry on the active roster until T.J. Hockenson returns. But it's probably more likely that the Vikings will attempt to move Harry to the practice squad in order to open up another spot on the roster for a deeper position group.
Offensive Linemen (9)
Christian Darrisaw (Starting LT)
Blake Brandel (Starting LG)
Garrett Bradbury (Starting C)
Ed Ingram (Starting RG)
Brian O'Neill (Starting RT)
Dan Feeney (G/C)
David Quessenberry (OT)
Tyrese Robinson (OG)
Walter Rouse (OT - Rookie)
No Dalton Risner in this group and this shouldn't really surprise anyone as he hasn't practiced in multiple weeks, and he didn't appear in a single preseason game. Tyrese Robinson had a solid preseason, and it will be interesting to see if Minnesota gives him a shot to start at some point this season if Ed Ingram struggles at right guard.
Defensive Linemen (5)
Harrison Phillips
Jerry Tillery
Jonathan Bullard
Levi Drake Rodriguez (Rookie)
Taki Taimani (Rookie)
Levi Drake Rodriguez and Taki Taimani both had impressive summers, and their youth could potentially invigorate a Vikings defensive line led by veterans Harrison Phillips and Jerry Tillery.
Edge Rushers (6)
Jonathan Greenard
Andrew Van Ginkel
Dallas Turner (Rookie)
Pat Jones II
Jihad Ward
Bo Richter (Rookie)
Minnesota's group of edge rushers looks completely different than it did a year ago. But with the aggressive scheme that defensive coordinator Brian Flores likes to run, this season's group of Vikings pass rushers has the talent to be among the best in the entire NFL.
Inside Linebackers (3)
Ivan Pace Jr.
Blake Cashman
Kamu Grugier-Hill
One of the easiest position groups to predict on Minnesota's roster. The Vikings might keep Brian Asamoah as well, but good money can be wagered on the three players above making the team's final 53, at the very least.
Cornerbacks (5)
Stephon Gilmore
Byron Murphy
Shaq Griffin
Fabian Moreau
Dwight McGlothern (Rookie)
With Stephon Gilmore recently being added to the mix, Minnesota moves on from Akayleb Evans, Duke Shelley, and others. Dwight McGlothern was impressive this summer, and the Vikings will likely need him to step up at some point when some of the older corners have to miss time due to injuries.
Safeties (6)
Harrison Smith
Cam Bynum
Josh Metellus
Jay Ward
Theo Jackson
Lewis Cine
It probably shouldn't be celebrated that a 2022 first-round pick did enough to make Minnesota's 2024 roster, but Lewis Cine deserves one last shot to prove he can make a difference for the team. Cine showed some flashes of his potential this preseason and Vikings general manager Kewsi Adofo-Mensah will probably want to give his first-ever draft selection as an NFL general manager one final chance.
Specialists (3)
Will Reichard (Kicker - Rookie)
Ryan Wright (Punter)
Andrew DePaola (Long Snapper)
Is it weird to be excited about a Vikings kicker? Because it feels weird to be excited about a Vikings kicker. Hopefully, Will Reichard carries his impressive success from the summer into the regular season because Minnesota fans would really love to not worry about a kicker for the first time this century.
Physically Unable to Perform List (1)
T.J. Hockenson - TE
