The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are interviewing two coaching candidates that the Minnesota Vikings would love for them to hire.

Unlike the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are both in search of a new defensive coordinator for the 2024 season.

The Bears have needed a new defensive coordinator since September, when Alan Williams abruptly resigned for reasons that still haven't been fully revealed to the public.

As for the Packers, they created a defensive coordinator vacancy on their staff earlier this week when they decided to move on from Joe Barry after three seasons with the team.

Possible hires for Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers is good news for Minnesota Vikings

Both teams are in the middle of their searches to replace Williams and Barry, and on Friday, some of the candidates for each job were revealed.

Green Bay is reportedly going to interview former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley for their defensive coordinator opening, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Before he was hired by the Chargers, Staley was the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 2020.

Unfortunately for his new team, Staley's defensive success with the Rams didn't come along with him when he became a head coach, as the Chargers ranked 29th (2021), 21st (2022), and 24th (2023) in points allowed per game during his three-year tenure.

Those numbers are much worse than what the Packers' defense was able to do under Barry for the last three seasons, so hiring Staley would essentially feel like a downgrade.

As for Barry, he's actually getting an interview with Chicago for their current defensive coordinator vacancy.

If hired, Barry would likely have less control over the defense than he did in Green Bay since Bears head coach Matt Eberflus is basically in charge of how the team's defense is run.

Still, it's just incredibly interesting that of all the candidates Chicago could have brought in to interview for their defensive coordinator opening, one of the guys they're meeting with is someone who was literally just fired by another team in the NFC North.

No decisions have been made for either defensive coordinator position, but if the Bears were to hire Barry and the Packers hired Staley, good luck finding a Vikings fan who would be upset with those decisions.
