Aaron Jones will be making his return to Lambeau Field when the Minnesota Vikings take on the Green Bay Packers this weekend, but he’s already drawing plenty of praise from his former head coach, Matt LaFleur.

LaFleur was asked about Jones during his press conference on Monday and, at first, acted like he didn’t know who the reporter was talking about. After moving on from the joke, LaFleur spoke highly about Jones, who he coached for four years during his time with the Packers.

“He’s a problem. He is. And he looks really good. I’ve been able to watch him a little bit. Certainly, he’s one of my favorite players that I’ve ever had the privilege to coach a guy like that. Just in terms of how he goes about his business, and I still got a lot of love for him. I just won’t have a lot of love for him when we are playing against him.”

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones heading into revenge game vs. the Green Bay Packers

Jones established himself as one of the greatest running backs in Packers history after being selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. His 5,940 rushing yards rank third in franchise history behind Ahman Green (8,322), and Jim Taylor (8,207), and his 45 rushing touchdowns rank fourth behind Taylor (81), Green (54), and Paul Hornung (50).

Jones spent seven seasons in Green Bay, including his last five under LaFleur, but made his way to Minnesota after being released this offseason. Playing on a one-year, $7 million deal, “The Aaron Jones Revenge Tour” has gone to plan with 228 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with 12 receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Jones has also made himself at home during his short time with the Vikings, donning a purple sombrero after signing his contract, embracing the SKOL chant, and renaming his “Lambeau Leap” into “The Bank Vault” to accommodate U.S. Bank Stadium.

By revitalizing the Vikings running game, he’s helped Sam Darnold and the rest of the offense win their first three games of the season and accomplished many firsts along the way. But Sunday’s game will be a different first as Jones returns to the city where he began his career in the NFL.
