When the final whistle blew on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings jogged off the field with a 31-29 win over the Green Bay Packers. It turned out to be a much closer contest than what many assumed after the Vikings stormed out to a 28-0 lead in the middle of the second quarter.
But Minnesota was able to hold off a second-half surge by the Packers, and with the win, the Vikings are 4-0 to begin the season for the first time since 2016.
Minnesota knew this week's game against their longtime division rival was going to be a battle. But in the end, the Vikings were able to go into Green Bay and get a win to prove even more doubters wrong than they already have this year.
Minnesota Vikings overcome adversity in Week 4 win over Green Bay Packers
Last week against the Houston Texans, Minnesota dominated the matchup from the jump. But on Sunday, the Vikings had to overcome a second-half rally by the Packers.
Green Bay definitely had plenty of momentum in the second half, especially when they cut Minnesota's lead to just six points. But the Vikings and quarterback Sam Darnold were able to put together a solid drive that resulted in rookie kicker Will Reichard converting a game-sealing 33-yard field goal.
While Minnesota would have preferred to just cruise to an easy win after getting out to such a large lead, they proved that they can still come out on top in the face of adversity.
The best teams in the NFL each season are the ones that come up with big defensive stops or put points on the board when they're needed the most, and that's exactly what the Vikings did on Sunday.
Next on the schedule for Minnesota is a trip to London, England, for a Week 5 contest against the New York Jets. The Vikings have never lost a game in London, and they'll be looking to extend their unbeaten streak across the pond when they take on Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
