Justin Jefferson on Jaire Alexander: 'Nobody's really worried about him'
By Adam Patrick
Last season, a bit of a beef was developed between Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson and Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. With the 2023 regular season just a few weeks from beginning, that beef still seems to be very much alive and well.
Jefferson was recently interviewed by CBS Sports, and he didn't hold back on the irrationally-confident Packers cornerback who believes he shut down the Vikings receiver all by himself in Green Bay's Week 17 win over Minnesota last season.
"Nobody's really worried about him. If you really see the mic'd up, [the Packers] had their intentions to take me out the [Week 17] game.
Everything about that day was to take me out the game, to not let me catch a ball, to do things to really take me out my game. But at that point in the season, we already had [clinched] the playoffs, we already had won the division. I didn't even play the whole game.
[Green Bay] played totally different the second time. They did not even play man [coverage] the second time at all. So [Alexander talking about] playing man and beating me up all game is very not true."
Jefferson was then asked about Alexander mocking the receiver during their Week 17 matchup last season by doing the Griddy celebration after an incomplete pass.
"For him to do a Griddy off an incomplete pass is very funny to me. It just goes to show you the amount of attention that he was trying to get by just doing stuff like that."
Jefferson knows it's Alexander's job to attempt to get in his head and throw him off his game. However, Jefferson also knows that Alexander had very little to do with whatever lack of success the Vikings receiver had in Week 17 last season because of the types of coverages Green Bay was using during the game.
One thing that we know is that all eyes will certainly be on these two when their teams face off during the upcoming season in Week 8 in Green Bay and then again in Week 17 in Minnesota.
When it comes time for these two matchups to take place, just follow the advice of Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens and "get your popcorn ready!"
