During a day in which the Minnesota Vikings will be making a number of changes to their roster as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 regular season, the team has reportedly granted second-year defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy permission to seek a trade with another team, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero on Tuesday.

Roy was selected by the Vikings in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft after a college career at LSU. He appeared in 12 games for Minnesota last season, and he finished his rookie campaign with eight tackles (one for a loss) and one pressure.

During this year's preseason, Roy was on the field for a total of 48 defensive snaps, and his PFF defensive grade ranked 34th out of 36 Vikings defenders.

What could the Minnesota Vikings land in a trade involving Jaquelin Roy?

While Minnesota did grant Roy permission to seek a trade, it's not like the team is going to land some sort of massive return package if they are able to work out a deal involving the young defensive lineman.

A late 2025 or 2026 draft pick in exchange for Roy in a trade seems believable and likely the best-case scenario for the Vikings and the second-year defender.

In his report, Pelissero did add that if Roy is unable to find a team to trade for him, then Minnesota is going to waive him before Tuesday's final roster deadline at 3 p.m. CST.

Doubts about Roy's status with the Vikings began to increase this offseason thanks to the emergence of rookie defensive linemen Levi Drake Rodriguez and Taki Taimani.

Rodriguez and Taimani both performed well this summer in training camp and during the preseason, and Minnesota clearly wants to make sure they stick around for the 2024 season.
