While the full Minnesota Vikings schedule for the team's 2024 campaign won't be officially released until 7 p.m. CST on Wednesday, there are still plenty of rumors flying around about when they will be facing each opponent during the upcoming season.

One of the latest rumors has potentially revealed which team the Vikings could be taking on in Week 1 of the 2024 season.

Based on the schedule leaks that have been shared by Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame on Wednesday, Minnesota's rumored opponent for their 2024 regular-season opener is the New York Giants.

Vikings Schedule Leaks: Minnesota to begin the 2024 season against the New York Giants?

It's important to note that no official announcement has been made by the Vikings or Giants about a potential Week 1 matchup next season, so this is just a rumor for now.

But if this rumor turns out to be true, then it will be the first time that Minnesota has faced New York in a Week 1 contest since the 1969 season when the Giants and quarterback Fran Tarkenton (yes, that Fran Tarkenton) were able to squeak out a 24-23 victory over the Vikings.

It will also be the first meeting between the two franchises since New York pulled off an upset over Minnesota inside U.S. Bank Stadium during the first round of the 2022 playoffs.

Both teams have experienced a number of significant changes since that playoff matchup in 2022. Kirk Cousins is no longer the starting quarterback for the Vikings, running back Saquon Barkley parted with the Giants earlier this offseason, and Minnesota's defense is now run by Brian Flores.

Flores running the Vikings' defense this time around should play a major factor in the 2024 matchup between New York and Minnesota, as the Giants were essentially able to do almost anything they wanted on offense during the last game between these two teams.

We can expect Flores and the Vikings' defense to make life much, much more difficult next season for New York quarterback Daniel Jones than what Minnesota's defense was able to do in 2022 when Ed Donatell was calling plays for the unit.

The only thing that can currently be confirmed about this matchup is that it will take place in the Giants' home stadium. It will be Minnesota's first road game against the Giants since 2019, when the Vikings were able to get an easy 28-10 win over New York.

Overall, Minnesota is 9-7 all-time in road matchups against the Giants (including the playoffs), and the Vikings have won three of their last four games in New York, dating back to the 2005 season.
