NFL.com's Eric Edholm appears to be the biggest critic of what the Minnesota Vikings did with their selections during the 2023 NFL Draft.
There's always a little bit more excitement each year after the Minnesota Vikings make their picks in the NFL Draft. Vikings fans might not be thrilled with every selection made by the team, but there at least one or two picks that people are intrigued by.
Apparently, NFL.com's Eric Edholm is not among those who feel any excitement about the selections made by Minnesota in this year's NFL Draft.
Edholm recently ranked every team in the league by his draft grades, and the Vikings came in at the very bottom in the No. 32 spot thanks to their D+ grade.
Do the Minnesota Vikings really have the worst class from the 2023 NFL Draft?
Giving any team a D+ grade immediately after the draft seems a bit odd since no one really knows how each selection is truly going to fit with the team they landed with. But Edholm is someone who has been harsh with his immediate draft grades in the past as well.
In 2020, he gave the Los Angeles Chargers a C+ draft grade, and he said his least favorite pick of all of their selections was quarterback Justin Herbert. Edholm's favorite pick made by the Chargers that year? Well, that would be wide receiver K.J. Hill, who has caught a grand total of 10 passes during his two seasons in the NFL.
Let's stick with Edholm's 2020 draft grades and move on to the Philadelphia Eagles, who earned a C grade from the draft analyst. Not only did the Eagles receive a C for their selections, but Edholm also wrote that receiver Jalen Reagor was his favorite pick made by Philadelphia that year, and quarterback Jalen Hurts was his least favorite selection they made.
If you're wondering about what draft grade he gave the Vikings in 2020, they ended up with a B+. Defensive lineman James Lynch was Edholm's favorite selection from Minnesota's 2020 draft class and wide receiver K.J. Osborn was his least favorite pick made by the Vikings that year.
The point is, Edholm has an opinion just like everyone else. He has a wealth of knowledge about all of the prospects and he is one of the most respected draft analysts in the industry. But not all of his immediate draft grades or rankings are going to turn out to be accurate when we look back in a few years.
It's certainly possible that Minnesota's 2023 draft class could still be viewed as the worst in the NFL in a few years. But there's also a chance that the selections made by the Vikings this year could turn out to be some of the best from the league's entire class.
We're all just going to have to wait and see how things turn out during the next few seasons.
