NFL Power Rankings: Where do the Vikings rank before 2024 training camp?
By Adam Patrick
With all of the changes that the Minnesota Vikings have gone through during the last few months, there are certainly a number of different opinions about where they deserve to land in an updated NFL Power Rankings list.
Some might think the Vikings deserve to currently rank in the bottom third of the NFL following the departures of quarterback Kirk Cousins and pass rusher Danielle Hunter earlier this year. While others might believe Minnesota has the potential to possibly sneak into the playoffs next season.
So, with there being less than a month until training camps are underway for every team in the league, where do the Vikings currently fit in between the rest of the NFL?
NFL Power Rankings: Where do the Minnesota Vikings rank before their 2024 training camp?
32. Washington Commanders
Jayden Daniels might be the right quarterback for the Commanders moving forward, but he's likely going to experience a bunch of growing pains as a rookie next season.
31. Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are already figuring out which 2025 quarterback prospect is going to look good in silver and black.
30. New England Patriots
Patriots fans who were born after the 2000 season aren't ready for the amount of struggles the team is about to have in 2024.
29. Denver Broncos
Sean Payton's streak of never coaching a team to less than seven wins in season is going to come to an end in 2024.
28. New York Giants
The Giants added wide receiver Malik Nabers in this year's NFL Draft, but they forgot to add someone who can actually throw the ball to him.
27. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's first year without Pete Carroll as their head coach since 2009 is going to be a rough one.
26. New Orleans Saints
The Saints haven't made the playoffs in either of Dennis Allen's first two seasons as the team's head coach, and that's not going to change in 2024.
25. Chicago Bears
Chicago is viewed by many as the champions of the 2024 offseason, but that hardly ever translates to success during the actual season.
24. Arizona Cardinals
The new connection between quarterback Kyler Murray and rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. should be fun to watch in Arizona, but they're going to need to put up a ton of points to make up for a Cardinals defense that is probably going to be among the NFL's worst for the second year in a row.
23. New York Jets
Hooray! Aaron Rodgers is back! Maybe he'll play in two offensive drives next season!
22. Atlanta Falcons
It won't take long for Falcons fans to realize that Kirk Cousins joined the team earlier this year to lead the team on a journey of mediocrity.
21. Indianapolis Colts
If Anthony Richardson is able to stay healthy for the majority of the 2024 season, the Colts have the potential to surprise some people. But that's a big if.
20. Carolina Panthers
Despite whatever seems to be taking place inside the owner's suite these days, the Panthers landed themselves a good head coach in Dave Canales, and the team should be much improved in 2024.
19. Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has dealt with a different injury in almost every season he's been in the NFL, and his latest ailment might be the most concerning one.
18. Minnesota Vikings
Heading into training camp, the Vikings should be viewed as a fringe playoff team. Yes, Minnesota moved on from Kirk Cousins and Danielle Hunter this offseason, but the team's new starting quarterback shouldn't need to do much in an offense that features Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Aaron Jones, and T.J. Hockenson, and the defense might actually be better off without Hunter.
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell was still able to lead the team to seven wins in 2023, despite using four different starting quarterbacks. Minnesota might only use two starting signal-callers next season, so imagine the excitement O'Connell must be feeling!
But, honestly, the Vikings' current roster is too talented to finish among the worst teams in the NFL in 2024. Minnesota's ceiling for next season might not be that high, but its floor is probably higher than half of the teams in the league.
17. Tennessee Titans
It was a surprise when the Titans fired Mike Vrabel as their head coach after last season and another surprise will take place in 2024 when new Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan has the team fighting for a playoff spot.
16. Cleveland Browns
Expect the Browns to start looking for a way to move on from quarterback Deshaun Watson after the 2024 season.
15. Philadelphia Eagles
The loss of center Jason Kelce to retirement this year is going to have a much bigger impact on the Eagles' success in 2024 than most people believe.
14. Buffalo Bills
As long as Josh Allen is Buffalo's starting quarterback, they will always have a good shot at qualifying for the playoffs.
13. Green Bay Packers
Life with Aaron Jones no longer in the offensive backfield will be a difficult adjustment for the Packers next season, but they should be able to win enough games to sneak into the playoffs.
12. Los Angeles Chargers
The hiring of JIm Harbaugh as the team's new head coach will result in the Chargers qualifying for the postseason for just the second time since 2019.
11. Houston Texans
Everyone's pick to be next season's breakout team in the NFL, but a tough schedule will likely prevent the Texans from meeting all of their expectations in 2024.
10. Los Angeles Rams
7-1 in their final eight games last season, the Rams will ride that momentum into the playoffs during the 2024 campaign.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers
One of the best defenses in the NFL will help make up for whatever struggles Russell Wilson and Justin Fields experience under center next season.
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Mike Evans will extend his streak to 11 straight years of finishing with at least 1,000 receiving yards.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars were 15-3 in their previous 18 regular-season games before quarterback Trevor Lawrence injured his ankle in Week 13 last year. With Lawrence healthy, expect Jacksonville to get back to being one of the most underrated teams in the league.
6. Miami Dolphins
The switch to Anthony Weaver as the team's new defensive coordinator will turn out to be one of the most impactful decisions made by the Dolphins in the 2024 offseason.
5. Detroit Lions
Ben Johnson sticking around as the Lions' offensive coordinator for another year will help the team maintain the high level of success they experienced last season.
4. San Francisco 49ers
Injuries will be the only thing that prevents the 49ers from finishing the 2024 campaign as the best team in the NFC.
3. Baltimore Ravens
Good luck to the rest of the league attempting to stop a Ravens rushing attack led by running back Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson.
2. Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in a contract year could result in him having the best single season of his NFL career.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs have all the pieces necessary to become the first team in the history of the league to win three Super Bowls in a row.
