Vikings News: Minnesota selects CB Mekhi Blackmon in Round 3 of 2023 NFL Draft

The Minnesota Vikings selected USC cornerback Mekhi Blackmon with the final selection in third round the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday night.

The Minnesota Vikings used their top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to select USC wide receiver Jordan Addison but were scheduled to make another selection in Round 3 on Day 2 of the draft and add more talent to their roster,

Minnesota was patient on Friday night and traded down in the third round with the San Francisco 49ers, sending them No. 79 for Nos. 102, 164, and 222 and taking USC cornerback Mekhi Blackmon at No. 102.

The Minnesota Vikings addressed the departure of wide receiver Adam Thielen in the first round but turned their attention to the defense for Day 2, taking a young cornerback with a lot of potential in USC's Mekhi Blackmon.

A cornerback with nice speed and strength, Blackmon stands 6-foot and weighs 175 pounds according to ESPN and joins a young group of defensive backs in Minnesota with an opportunity to make an immediate impact

A teammate of first round pick Jordan Addison, the Vikings seem to be trying to build a competitive, yet harmonious locker room. ESPN believes Blackmon can compete with Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans for playing time as a rookie.
