The Minnesota Vikings need to be serious about getting better in the trenches this offseason. That includes getting better blockers up front and fortifying the front line on the defensive side of the football.

Minnesota has a healthy amount of salary cap space available to spend on signing free agents and re-signing their own players. With the "legal tampering" period underway in the NFL, expect negotiations and reports to start flooding in from insiders and analysts.

The Vikings are getting started early by taking a better look at some of the free agents who might be a good fit for the team in 2025. In fact, the team is already reported to be bringing a Pro Bowl defender in for a visit.

Pro Bowl free agent defensive lineman visiting Minnesota Vikings

According to Tom Pelissero on X, the Minnesota Vikings are bringing free agent defensive tackle Jonathan Allen in for a visit. Allen was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and has been with Washington his entire career.

Standing six-foot-three and weighing 300 pounds, the former University of Alabama defender was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022 thanks to his disruptive presence on the defensive line for Washington.

In eight seasons with Washington, Jonathan Allen started 108 of his 109 games played and accumulated 401 combined tackles and 42 sacks while defending five passes, forcing two fumbles, and recovering two fumbles.

His presence would be a huge boost to Minnesota's defensive line that was inconsistent during the 2024 season. A veteran with a history of being disruptive and playing at a high level, Allen would be a great pick up for the Vikings.

Of course, a visit doesn't mean the defensive lineman will sign with Minnesota, but it is a great sign that there is mutual interest between the two sides. At a time where players can agree to terms of a contract but not yet sign, this should give fans hope that a Pro Bowl defender could be coming to the purple and gold.

Allen missed time in 2024 with a partially torn pectoral muscle but was able to return before Washington's Week 17 game against the Atlanta Falcons. As long as the medical check comes back good and the meeting with coaches goes well, there shouldn't be many concerns about him signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
