Following the team's difficult loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, some are calling for the Minnesota Vikings to give a different quarterback a shot in the starting lineup when they return to the field on Thursday for a Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
During an episode of "Purple Daily" on Monday, SKOR North's Judd Zulgad shared his hottest take coming out of the Vikings' loss to the Eagles, and it definitely met the requirements needed to achieve a sizzling level.
"All right, I'm just going to rip the band-aid off right now. Here's my hottest take. Max Brosmer should start on Thursday against the Chargers. Max Brosmer should get the start.
...Max Brosmer has been raved about through training camp. Max Brosmer is, I believe, 24 now or 25. So he's not a kid. I mean, I think he's at least two years older than McCarthy.
The fact is, one of the things that they've talked about is Max Brosmer is the king of preparation, so he's always prepared, which would help on a short week. He hasn't played.
I am advocating Max Brosmer starts on Thursday, and then McCarthy needs to be back. I would think against the Lions.”
Should Max Brosmer start for the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers?
There have been no indications that Minnesota is actually considering starting rookie Max Brosmer at quarterback in the team's Week 8 contest against the Chargers, so at this point, it's still just a suggestion (or a plea for some).
However, the latest update on J.J. McCarthy has indicated that Week 9 against the Detroit Lions is when the Vikings are expecting him to be ready to play again, and Carson Wentz is not only coming off a brain-melting performance against Philadelphia on Sunday, but he's also dealing with a shoulder injury.
Brosmer is easily the healthiest quarterback on Minnesota's roster heading into Week 8, but is that enough to convince the team to start him over Wentz? It doesn't seem likely, but it's also still not something that can be ruled out at this moment.
Brosmer joined the Vikings earlier this year as an undrafted free agent out of the nearby University of Minnesota. He did well enough in training camp and the preseason this past summer that Minnesota kept him around when the team decided on its final 53-man roster before the start of the regular season.
With both Wentz and McCarthy dealing with injuries, should the Vikings give Brosmer a shot on Thursday and see if he can deliver a magical performance that some Minnesota fans believe he's capable of?
