Kyler Murray hasn't taken a single snap for the Minnesota Vikings yet, but there are plenty of opinions about how he will perform in Kevin O'Connell's offense during the 2026 NFL season. Some are optimistic about his arrival, while others aren't as positive.
This is the time of year when any article predicting the upcoming season or analyzing a team's current situation comes out in droves. Among those pieces are those that rank players, including the new Vikings passer.
Murray was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and played seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before joining the purple and gold as a free agent this offseason to help the team in an incredibly challenging NFC North division.
Does new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray deserve to be ranked as one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL for the 2026 NFL season?
Statistically, Kyler Murray is a solid quarterback. In 87 games, he has thrown for 20,460 yards with 121 touchdowns compared to 60 interceptions, while adding 3,193 rushing yards and 32 more scores. Those numbers are bound to grow now that he signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Recently, FanSided's Christopher Kline released an article ranking all 32 starting quarterbacks in the league, and the placement of Murray seems interesting considering some of the names that are listed above him.
In the piece, Kyler Murray landed at No. 24 out of the 32 quarterbacks, meaning that he is one of the ten worst players starting at his position in the league heading into the upcoming season. That seems a little harsh considering some of the passers ranked better than him.
Included in some of the shocking picks ranked higher than Murray are Tennessee Titans passer Cam Ward, New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough, Texans signal-caller C.J. Stroud, and New York Giants QB Jaxon Dart. Seeing the less-established and struggling quarterbacks above Murray is interesting, but that's how opinions work.
Interestingly, several of those quarterbacks listed are included in the author's "Who's on the rise?" section of the article, but Murray's new scenery with the Vikings wasn't mentioned as an opportunity for him to showcase his skills.
Only time will tell how Kyler Murray fits in with the Minnesota Vikings, but it is interesting to see people sleeping on his abilities. There is a reason he was a No. 1 overall pick, and Kevin O'Connell has an opportunity to get the most out of the 28-year-old quarterback.
