The Minnesota Vikings will likely have a new starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season. Unless the purple and gold bring Sam Darnold back in free agency, they will be rolling with J.J. McCarthy or someone else behind center,
The Vikings should not rush to throw McCarthy into the starting lineup. Although he missed his rookie year with an injury, the former University of Michigan standout is only in the second year of his four-year rookie deal.
That means Minnesota could choose to give the 22-year-old quarterback another year to learn behind a veteran quarterback if they feel it is the right situation and it won't set the franchise back too much financially.
Adam Schefter links Minnesota Vikings to New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers
Rumors will definitely be hot about many quarterbacks possibly joining the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. Seeing how head coach Kevin O'Connell was able to get so much out of Sam Darnold will have many experts wondering if he can rejuvenate the career of another struggling veteran quarterback.
When news hit that the New York Jets aren't expected to bring Aaron Rodgers back for 2025, it was inevitable that he would be linked to Minnesota. Those rumblings get a little louder when a prominent NFL insider speaks.
ESPN's Adam Schefter spoke during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" and discussed what Aaron Rodgers' future could hold. He believes the future could involve him wearing a purple and gold jersey in 2025.
Adam Schefter believes that a player of Rodgers' stature will be able to listen to offers and find a situation that is best for him and the signing team. McAfee asked him for a couple of teams that might be potentially interested.
The first team out of his mouth was Minnesota. He feels the quarterback position is a bit up in the air because Sam Darnold is hitting free agency. This got the rest of McAfee's crew talking about the "Brett Favre Prophecy" that Rodgers could fulfill.
Rodgers would be an interesting choice for the Minnesota Vikings as long as he can look like the MVP and All-Pro quarterback he was with the Green Bay Packers and not the disappointing passer he was when he played for the New York Jets.
If the Vikings can get that version of Aaron Rodgers, he could help elevate an offense with numerous great weapons and an explosive offense in an extremely competitive NFC North during the 2025 NFL season.
