During Kevin O'Connell's tenure with the franchise, the Minnesota Vikings haven't shied away from adding players or coaches to the team who have found themselves in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Sometimes it has worked out, and other times it hasn't.

Given the Vikings' willingness to take roster risks with O'Connell as the team's head coach, some thought Minnesota might be among the group interested in signing cornerback Terrion Arnold, who was recently waived by the Detroit Lions after he was arrested on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping in June.

Despite the speculation, it doesn't seem like the Vikings are currently interested in possibly adding Arnold in the near future, as the cornerback's agent, Nicole Lynn, revealed in a court hearing on Friday that the Houston Texans, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks are the only teams that have contacted her about potentially signing the former Lions cornerback.

Minnesota Vikings have no need to take a risk on former Detroit Lions CB Terrion Arnold

Sure, when "former first-round pick" is attached to a player who recently became available, there's typically going to be at least some intrigue from Minnesota's fanbase about the team possibly adding him to the roster.

However, the Vikings currently don't have a great enough need at cornerback to take a risk on Arnold, especially since the former Detroit defender has been pretty underwhelming in his NFL career so far.

Last season, Arnold's PFF defensive grade ranked 96th out of 112 qualifying corners in the league, and as a rookie in 2024, his grade ranked 109th out of 116 qualifying corners.

While in pass coverage in the last two seasons with the Lions, Arnold allowed a total of seven touchdowns, and opposing quarterbacks had a 96.3 passer rating when throwing in his direction, according to data from Pro-Football-Reference.com.

The top three cornerbacks on Minnesota's current roster, Byron Murphy Jr., Isaiah Rodgers, and James Pierre, all had a better PFF defensive grade than Arnold last season, and two of them (Rodgers and Pierre) were among the 20 best corners in the NFL last year in terms of PFF defensive grade.

Injuries in training camp or the preseason would certainly change the Vikings' level of need for another cornerback. But that level still probably wouldn't get high enough for Minnesota to consider signing Arnold while he continues to be charged with committing multiple felonies.
