In the very near future, the Miami Dolphins are expected to take on a yacht-load of dead cap and release veteran quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Among the teams that have been named as a potential landing spot for Tagovailoa this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings have been mentioned as a possibility by some.

Anything connecting the Vikings to the current Dolphins quarterback has basically just been speculation at this point. But on Monday, someone who was actually in attendance at the recent 2026 NFL Scouting Combine shared what he heard from people around the league at the event about Minnesota having any interest in Tagovailoa.

According to NBC Sports' Matthew Berry, the Vikings "do NOT have interest" in signing the Miami signal-caller whenever he becomes available this offseason.

Berry did mention Kyler Murray, Geno Smith, Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, Mac Jones, Malik Willis, and Joe Flacco all as possibilities for Minnesota to acquire this year, but Tagovailoa does not seem to be on the team's radar at this point in the offseason.

Very obvious why the Minnesota Vikings "do not have interest" in Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa

Aside from the fact that Tagovailoa's production plummeted and his approach to leadership was questioned multiple times last season with the Dolphins, there's one glaring reason why the Vikings won't be signing him this year, and his name is Brian Flores.

Flores and Tagovailoa butted heads when Minnesota's current defensive coordinator was Miami's head coach in 2020 and 2021.

The animosity between the two only grew larger after the Dolphins fired Flores in 2022 and Tagovailoa gained enough confidence to bash his former head coach afterwards for things that, looking back now, the Vikings' defensive coordinator was mostly right about.

Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell prides himself on his team having a strong culture inside their locker room, and adding someone like Tagovailoa to the mix, who has a negative history with one of the Vikings' top assistant coaches, would just feel like a recipe for disaster.

Signing Tagovailoa was never going to be a legitimate possibility for Minnesota, and it never will be as long as Flores is running the team's defense.
