The Minnesota Vikings continue to make changes in preparation for the 2026 NFL season. While much of the fan focus is on the quarterback competition, there are other areas that the franchise needs to work on.
Earlier this offseason, the Vikings hired a new general manager. After the draft, the purple and gold announced that they had hired former Seattle Seahawks assistant Nolan Teasley for the position, and the staff around him needed to be filled out.
Salary cap specialist and former interim general manager Rob Brzezinski stayed with the team, and it appeared as though there wouldn't be many significant losses in the front office during the transition of power.
The Minnesota Vikings are losing assistant general manager Ryan Grigson, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Ryan Grigson joined the Minnesota Vikings as the senior vice president of player personnel in 2022. He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2025, but is leaving the team, according to Kevin Seifert and Neil Stratton on X.
Grigson was reportedly given the option to stay in Minnesota as an assistant to new general manager Nolan Teasley, but instead opted to leave the team and explore other options around the league rather than take on a new title.
Many Vikings fans are likely okay with Grigson's decision since his past is loaded with questionable decisions. His time as the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts was a disaster, headlined but not getting help for quarterback Andrew Luck and trading a first-round pick for running back bust Trent Richardson.
Despite his previous shortcomings, there is value in his experience and knowledge. In the right role, Ryan Grigson could help a franchise look outside the box now that he is no longer in the Vikings front office.
Here is what ESPN's Kevin Siefert had to say about Grigson's exit from Minnesota:
"Ryan Grigson was given an opportunity to remain on new Vikings GM Nolan Teasley’s staff, with a different title, as previously reported. As Neil said, Grigson has in fact decided to depart and pursue a new job with another team."
It will be interesting to see what opportunities are out there for Ryan Grigson. Leaving his job as an assistant general manager for the Minnesota Vikings is a bold move for the 54-year-old Indiana native, but only time will tell if he can get a great opportunity elsewhere in the NFL for the 2026 NFL season.
