3 winners (and 2 losers) from the Vikings in Week 12 win over the Bears
By Adam Carlson
The Minnesota Vikings completed their three-game road trip with a stop in Chicago on Sunday. It took overtime for the purple and gold to put away the Bears, but the win moved them to 9-2 on the season.
Chicago did a great job of staying in the game. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 320 yards with two touchdowns while the offense as a whole put together great drives and had explosive plays that kept the Vikings' defense on their toes.
Several Vikings players were key factors in Minnesota's win. Some contributed in a positive way while others didn't have their best day. Let's look at three winners and two losers from the win over the Bears on Sunday.
3 winners (and 2 losers) from the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12
Vikings winner No. 1: Jordan Addison, WR
Jordan Addison has a big responsibility to pick up the slack if the opposing defense prioritizes taking away other weapons. The Vikings' No. 2 receiver thrived in that role on Sunday, making the Bears' defense pay on multiple occasions.
Targeted nine times in the game, Addison caught eight passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. Sam Darnold seemed very comfortable throwing him the ball and he became a huge reason Minnesota moved the ball so well against Chicago.
Vikings loser No. 1: Johnny Mundt, TE
Mental mistakes can put a team in bad situations. Tight end Johnny Mundt had a day he's likely to want to forget, especially since Minnesota relied on him in the absence of Josh Oliver in the Week 12 lineup.
Mundt caught a pass for seven yards, but he also had a big pre-snap penalty that hurt Minnesota and was part of that sloppy attempt at an onside kick recovery. He's been much better in the past, so hopefully he rebounds next week.
Vikings winner No. 2: T.J. Hockenson, TE
With Oliver out, T.J. Hockenson would be relied on more on offense. He accepted that challenge in a big way when Chicago's defense prioritized containing Justin Jefferson leaving the rest of the pass-catchers to pick up the slack.
Minnesota's starting tight end caught seven of the nine passes thrown his way for 114 yards. Although he didn't have a touchdown against the Bears, his work in the middle of the field helped to put the Vikings in a good position to put points on the board.
Vikings loser No. 2: Justin Jefferson, WR
The Chicago Bears emphasized making Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson as small of a factor as possible in Week 12. Their approach was successful, as Minnesota's superstar had one of the smallest offensive outputs of his career.
He was blanketed and targeted only five times. Jefferson caught two of them for 27 yards with his 20-yard catch coming late in the game. The amount of respect he got from Chicago's defense should be considered a huge compliment.
Vikings winner No. 3: Aaron Jones, RB
An early goal-line fumble could have put Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones on the loser list, but he totally redeemed himself by bouncing back in a major way as a contributor on the ground and through the air.
On 22 rushing attempts, Jones gained 106 yards and earned a rare second-half rushing touchdown. He added three catches on four targets for 23 yards, giving him a total of 129 yards from scrimmage against the Bears.
