Visanthe Shiancoe doesn’t even know if he will still have Brett Favre as a teammate come the start of the season. But that doesn’t matter to Visanthe, who has Favre’s back no matter what. And Shiancoe would like Darren Sharper to know that, in his capacity as Brett’s wingman, he didn’t appreciate Sharper’s recent remarks suggesting the Saints plan to go after the QB’s bad ankle when they face the Vikings on opening night. Sharper’s now-infamous tweet from a few days ago reads, “Well y’all seen Brett had surgery on that ankle we got after in the championship game. Come [...]
Jared Allen Sheds His Mullet, Makes Headlines
Those who are tired of Brett Favre dominating the off-season NFL headlines will be happy to know that, for the past few days, Favre has not only not been the most-talked-about man in the sport, he hasn’t even been the most-talked-about man on his own team. That distinction has, for the past 48 hours, belonged to Jared Allen, who in booting Favre from the blogs has proven once again the power of the mullet. Or, in this case, the power of the shedding of the mullet. I don’t know how you could’ve missed it, but in case you have, here’s [...]
Did Brett Favre Already Have Surgery on His Ankle?
With the possible exception of LeBron James‘ elbow, Brett Favre‘s ankle has been the most talked-about body part in all of sports this summer. Earlier this offseason, we learned from Favre himself how much the ankle was still bothering him. We were then informed by Brett that, despite speculation that he would need surgery on the ankle to keep playing, there was a possibility that he would be able to press forward without having any kind of procedure. Long story short, we have absolutely no idea what’s going on with Brett Favre’s ankle. However, now we have learned that, in [...]
Tarvaris Jackson was going to be the Vikings‘ starting quarterback in 2009…until a little fellow I like to call Brett Favre swooped in and stole his job away. Favre would go on to put up MVP-level numbers in leading the Vikings to within inches of the Super Bowl. T-Jack, meanwhile, would wait out the season on the bench, in anticipation of becoming an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Only problem for T-Jack: because of the CBA situation, his unrestricted free agency became a restricted free agency. The Vikings ended up slapping a same-round tender on him, which chased away [...]
For a few years, Dennis Green and Daunte Culpepper made beautiful offensive music together in Minnesota. Then Green’s insanity – not to mention his failure to win the big one – got him run out of town. A few years later, Culpepper himself suffered a catastrophic knee injury, and tumbled from the ranks of the NFL’s elite. Daunte’s own ticket out of Minnesota was punched some time after when he made it clear to then-new coach Brad Childress that he had no desire to remain on the team. Since then, Culpepper has bounced from the Dolphins to the Raiders to [...]
Vikings Sign Their First 2010 Draft Pick
And the lucky guy is…7th rounder Ryan D’Imperio. Terms of his deal have not been disclosed. D’Imperio played linebacker at Rutgers but is expected to move to fullback with the Vikes. Cause you can never have enough fullbacks.
In a chat with the Palm Beach Post, Percy Harvin gave the credit for his speedy development as a wide receiver to the guy who threw him the ball in 2009, and may be throwing him the ball again in 2010. “I just went into [the season] trying to contribute to the team first of all in the special-teams area but Brett got there and kind of took me into the game a little faster than I probably would have learned it under other quarterbacks,” Harvin said. Then Percy went a little further and suggested that, as a lot of [...]
Many fans scratched their heads when UAB quarterback Joe Webb was drafted in the sixth round by the Vikings, after the team had passed on numerous other potentially more interesting QB prospects, including Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow. The head-scratching ceased when we learned the Vikes were bringing the versatile and athletic Webb in not as a quarterback but a wide receiver. But now it appears the Vikings do intend to give Webb a chance at quarterback…at least according to Webb. “The coaches liked me [at receiver], liked what I did out there and the athleticism I showed,” Webb told [...]
John Randle became an All-Pro defensive tackle, and ultimately a Hall-of-Famer, thanks in part to the tutelage of defensive line coach John Teerlinck. In gratitude for Teerlinck’s inestimable contribution to his success, Randle has chosen his former mentor to present him for induction at this year’s Hall of Fame ceremony. “I’ve been an assistant coach for 22 years,” Teerlinck said of the news. “I’ve coached in 31 playoff games, six championships, and four Super Bowls. This tops them all. This is the biggest honor for an assistant coach.” Randle goes into the Hall on August 7, alongside fellow greats Jerry [...]
Vikings’ Weakest Link: Defensive Tackle?
FoxSports.com’s John Czarnecki believes defensive tackle is the weak link for the Super Bowl contender Vikings: It looks like the Vikings’ two defensive tackles, Kevin and Pat Williams, could finally be suspended four games for failing a drug test more than a year ago. If it happens at the start of the season, they figure to lose two of their first four games with the Saints, Dolphins and Jets among the opponents. There isn’t a better defensive tackle in the NFL than Kevin Williams while big Pat is a huge run stuffer. They will be replaced by Jimmy Kennedy, a [...]
