Squashing Michael Vick to Vikings Rumor

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

There was an Internet rumor yesterday floating around on how the Minnesota Vikings will be prepared this offseason to offer Michael Vick a “megadeal” and how it is the owner’s #1 priority. This rumor was started “Incarcerated Bob from Jersey” of ‘Boomer & Carton’s’ WFAN Sports Talk Radio Show. Before we order our #7 purple jerseys as if Randy Moss was back in town, it must be noted for three reasons on how this story is about as believable as Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus being engaged. Wait, what? 1) I follow NFL as much as the next guy and [...]

Lester Bagley Gives Stadium Update

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Vikings vice president of public affairs Lester Bagley today participated in a chat on the team’s official site, and updated Viking Nation on the status of the team’s stadium efforts.  During said chat session Bagley revealed that two separate Los Angeles groups have approached the team about the possibility of relocating the Vikings to the L.A. area.  Bagley said the Vikings are not currently looking at relocation, but are intent on getting a new stadium built in Minnesota. “Clearly, the Vikings stadium issue is being followed nationally and it’s no secret that we’re down to the last year on our [...]

Adrian Peterson Has a Sprained Ankle

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Adrian Peterson left Sunday’s 17-13 Vikings win over the Redskins in the second quarter with an ankle injury and, despite spending the whole second half hopping up and down on the sideline, did not return to the game.  In his stead, Toby Gerhart ran for a workmanlike 76 yards on 22 carries, helping the Vikings grind out a ball-control-style victory. Obviously, any time Adrian Peterson suffers any kind of ding it sends cold shivers up the spines of the Vikings and their fans.  Those shivers will have to continue for a few more days, as Peterson continues to be evaluated.  [...]

Vikings Victory Vindicates Brett Favre

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre was right and Brad Childress was wrong.  That’s what everyone is thinking this morning, in the wake of the Vikings‘ 17-13 win over the Washington Redskins. Well actually, that was what they thought before the victory, but now that opinion appears genuinely vindicated.  Now, thanks to the Vikings’ relatively consistent effort over the Redskins, we have solid proof that Childress’ game-planning was indeed the weak link in the offensive chain, and we would’ve been better off all along if the team had just listened to Brett Favre. We all saw it on the field:  Without Chilly, the Vikings [...]

Eric Bieniemy Staying Put (For Now)

AUTHOR: | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

In spite of being a “lost season”, we don’t have to worry about losing an assistant coach. Eric “sleeping with” Bieniemy is staying put for now as the assistant head coach for the offense of the Vikings. This comes after news of the head coach of University of Mississippi, Houston Nutt, accepting the head coaching position with Bienemy’s alma mater the Colorado Buffaloes. Bieniemy served as an assistant coach for the Buffaloes in 2001 and 2002 before moving on the UCLA and the Vikings. It was rumored that he interviewed for the Colorado head coaching position yesterday with the Vikings [...]

Vikings Grind Out 17-13 Win Over Redskins

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

It wasn’t pretty, but the Vikings finally got a road win in 2010.  They also got Leslie Frazier his first win as a head coach.  They were aided immensely in this endeavor by their opponent the Redskins, who shot themselves in the foot repeatedly on offense and killed themselves with a block-in-the-back penalty on what would’ve been a punt return touchdown to take the lead.  Yes luck  – and Redskins ineptitude – had a lot to do with the Vikings’ winning.  But it isn’t enough to just be lucky; you have to take advantage of the breaks, and not hurt [...]

Vikings and Redskins Tied 7-7 at Half

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

So what changed without Brad Childress as coach?  Well, the Vikings did accomplish one thing today that they hadn’t done all year under Chilly:  They scored a touchdown on their opening drive.  For that drive the offense looked crisp.  Adrian Peterson ran hard, Brett Favre spread the ball around, and the Vikings worked their way methodically down the field and punched it in.  Unfortunately, the offense would not achieve the same level of efficiency for the remainder of the half.  It didn’t help matters that Peterson injured his ankle early in the second and had to leave.  Brett Favre took [...]

Brett Favre May Have Pneumonia

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre was sick all week with the flu.  Then the flu caused a sinus infection.  And now, according to Favre himself, he may have pneumonia. Nevertheless, the great warrior Favre plans on playing today against the Redskins, outdoors with the temperature below 50. He’s done everything else in his career…might as well play once with pneumonia too.  Something to tell the grandkids about. Follow FanSided on Facebook. Follow The Viking Age on Twitter.

Bernard Berrian, Chris Cook Out vs. Redskins

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brad Childress‘ firing did nothing for Bernard Berrian‘s sore groin.  The receiver, who missed all of the Bears game and most of the Packer game, is listed as inactive for the first contest of the Leslie Frazier era. The Vikings will also be without cornerback Chris Cook, who got benched last week against the Packers, then came down with a knee injury.  It looks like Asher Allen and Antoine Winfield will be the starting corners. With special teams stand-outs Eric Frampton and Jamarca Sanford hurt, Frazier has elected to activate Erin Henderson. Brett Favre will start, but will not be [...]

Vikings Begin Post-Childress Era Under Cloud of Uncertainty

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Vikings | COMMENTS: None Yet

In 2010 under Brad Childress, the Vikings managed only 3 wins in 10 games, all three victories coming at home against horrible teams.  The run of Chilly-inspired ineptitude culminated last Sunday in a 31-3 home defeat at the hands of the hated Green Bay Packers and their dashing quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  That was one embarrassment too many for owner Zygi Wilf who chopped off Chilly’s head in punishment.  Now the Vikings will proceed with Leslie Frazier at the helm.  The cloud of uncertainty within which the Vikings have operated for several weeks may begin to dispel today against the Redskins, [...]
