Vikings GM Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer flew down to Houston this morning to meet with Peterson and hopefully make everything better (or at least find out where everyone stands).
No news has emerged from the meeting yet, but we do have this brief video from KHOU of Spielman and Peterson hugging it out before their meeting at Peterson’s home.
Those weren’t exactly hearty “it’s all good bro” kind of hugs. They were more just quick greeting hugs. Nice to see Adrian dressing up for the occasion, eh?
Read what you will into the hugs, but here’s the reality: The Vikings will have to pay Adrian Peterson almost $13 million this year if they can’t get him to renegotiate.
If he doesn’t want to renegotiate, the only other good option might be to work a trade. Peterson has reportedly put together a list of five teams he wouldn’t mind being traded to.
The Vikings would potentially benefit in terms of cap space and draft picks by working a trade for Peterson, but they would be left without a #1 running back for 2015. And many fans would be left with a bad taste in their mouths.
