John Sullivan may practice on Tuesday

Labor Day was a day off for Vikings center John Sullivan but truth be told Sullivan probably would have preferred to be out there preparing for the season opener rather than standing on the sidelines.

Standing on the sidelines is about all Sullivan has been doing for the last few weeks as he battles back spasms but according to Mike Zimmer the center is getting closer (via ESPN):

"“He’s getting better every day,” Zimmer said. “We might get him out here a little tomorrow, so we’ll see. We’ll see how he improves.”"

Sullivan has seen no action since the second preseason game. The Vikings have been very cautious with the anchor of their offensive line as he deals with this back issue.

It would be really great if Sullivan could get out there and practice and be ready to play against San Francisco on Monday night. The Vikings’ offensive line is already enough of a mess as it is.

One further health-related item from Monday: Fullback Zach Line is dealing with a knee issue and may not be able to go for the opener. If Line can’t suit up the Vikings would sign Blake Renaud off the practice squad to take his place.

Line beat out Renaud for the fullback job in preseason but Renaud may well end up seeing regular season action before Line.

The Vikings are currently favored over San Francisco who had a very tumultuous offseason to say the least.
